The Name Behind the Business

At thirty eight years of age., I had a heart attack. I was told by the ER DR that had I been a man, he would have admitted me since my bloodwork was "iffy" and my EKG was abnormal but, (and he said this to Frankie as well as to me) since I was "just a woman, He believed the pain in my chest was all in my head, that the three nitro pills they had given me had finally began to ease the Mack Truck parked on my chest off, and the fact that we were laughing and cutting up with the nurses (I reckon we can find joy in everything) made him want us out of his ER. He firmly instructed me to not bother my Dr, exact words, for at least two weeks, to stop looking for attention and to take some OTC gas meds. Seriously.After three weeks in which I had become almost 100% bedridden, I finally went to see my regular Dr. But it was too late, the damage was done. The cardiologist I was seeing told me the damage to my heart was so severe that there was not a thing he could do for me but to counsel me to get my affairs in order and to prepare my sixteen year old twins for my death. For nine months that's all we heard from this Dr. I fell into a very deep depression.

Six months after my heart attack, Frankie and the boys took me to the Flea Market to see the Puppies & Kittens to try to brighten my day. I could still barely walk so we wouldn't be there long. But as soon as we walked in, I saw her. Silk & Sassafras. I was desperately in love. Apparently, so was she. Sassy's owner handed her to me and she climbed right up under my chin and didn't move. We needed a new roof and there was no way we could afford a new Yorkshire Terrier puppy and a new roof so I handed my heart back to the woman and told the guys I was ready to go home. Somehow I was able to hide the fact that I was crying the entire way home and for about thirty minutes after we got home, but Frankie finally found me and said, "Honey, we can always get a new roof but your puppy won't always be there." So away we go back to the flea Market to get my Sassy. Y'all, she was so tiny that she could tuck herself into Frankie's uniform shirt pocket and you couldn't tell she was in there!Two weeks after bringing Sassy home, the woman who sold her to us was arrested for running one of the worst puppy mills in Jackson County history. She would almost starve her puppies to keep them small so they would sell better. Sassy was 4 1/2 months old when we bought her and weighed 1 pound 1 oz. She was my special treasure from Jesus. Had we not bought her, at 5 months she would have been locked in a cage and bred to death, never being outside a cage again. On top of the 75 dead dogs they found thrown on the property, they had to put down over a hundred dogs and puppies because of disease and even because of their little paws being in such bad health due to being in wire cages all their life. There are more atrocities that I won't mention here. It affects me so adversely, I'm sure it will do so to you as well.Sassy and I got too love one another for 15 good long years. There will never be another like her. If I could be promised another exactly like her, I can't imagine the amount of money I would be willing to give away for her. She was my best friend behind Jesus and my Frankman. I was beyond blessed for a lifetime of knowing her. Those fifteen years helped heal  my depression and brought me back to my family. Never despise the small things God will use to work miracles in your life! He knows exactly what you need when you need it!

After forty wonderfully blessed years of marriage to my wonderful husband, Frank Spivey, who just happens to be my favorite preacher as well, our journey has been filled with ups and downs, joy, pain and gratitude. We are proud parents of twin boys, now 38, who have embraced faith in Jesus and are raising their own children to love Jesus. Witnessing the miraculous works of God in our lives has strengthened our faith, reminding us that all glory belongs to Him. We acknowledge that every blessing, healing, and act of mercy comes through the grace of Jesus Christ, and we are humbled to be instruments in His kingdom.

May God bless you and keep you, may He make His face shine upon you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
